When reading the piece Starting with What Others Are saying, I was intrigued by many ways in which I can enhance my writing. I feel as though this article gave me a lot of ideas I wouldn’t never thought of; all which will give my paper a stronger and more clear argument. This will allow my point to get across more efficiently and allow my reader to know exactly what my claim is and why I am siding this way. I big thing I pulled out of this section was the importance of order. If you don’t give a background and begin by introducing your thought, then your reader might get lost and wonder where this thought has been rooted from. I think this is a very important concept because although this may be boring at times, it is crucial when writing different types of papers. Adding to this thought, they also introduced the ‘they say’ concept; one in which I was not previously aware of. I like this concept because it reminds you to add what they’re saying before your reasoning, and also go in depth behind why you’re arguing or writing in the way you’ve chosen. I feel as before reading this chapter, I didn’t know how strong this can make your paper, but also the fact that it can allow your paper to flow a lot more fluently; something I’ve struggled with in the past. I also enjoyed the templates given later on in this section. It allows me to have a structure to what I may be saying but also give my own unique touch and use this example in my own way. Overall, I thought this chapter has taught me a lot and has opened my eyes to new ways to help better my paper in the long run.
