journal 20

When reading through all of the journals, I noticed a certain theme; we all sympathized for them and noticed their hard work and dedication. We recognized their unique work and the fact that each and every one of them put themselves before others and risked their lives. I specifically related to Kaleigh and Jess’s responses and felt as though I could connect to their views on this pandemic really well. Reading their journals really struck me and hit close to home. Jess brought up a good point that none of these women were expecting pay and once received they were shocked. They were doing this as volunteer work; giving back to others and putting others before themselves. This was never about money and was really all hard work and care from the bottom of their hearts. Jess mentioned that she has volunteers throughout her life especially with this coronavirus pandemic, and it couldn’t warm my heart anymore. I have been doing the same and helping in any way possible and I think in the moment the work is brutal but by the end it is more of a reward than anything. Giving back to my community and helping in the slightest way possible is an achievement in its own. In Kaleigh’s prompt she talked about herself being able to and wanting step into these people’s shoes and put her life behind others as well. I couldn’t agree more, because I would do the same thing. Making sure a multitude of people are healthy and taken care of would be such a reward and knowing that I could make an impact is eye opening. I definitely have the same mind set as here where I would rather risk my life than watch someone die and knowing I wasn’t there to leave my impact in any way possible. Overall, giving back to whoever and whatever we can is our purpose and our goal and I think even though we can’t always fix the problem, knowing we’ve tried is a step in the right direction, and a reward in itself.
