journal 23

When reading through the journal 21 responses I noticed a very common theme; the fact that no one was expecting this outbreak to affect us this close to home and expand as fast as it did. We all were devastated as to what was occurring in china but didn’t think twice about it happening in our every own state. This transformed for many within weeks and that’s when the panic began to evolve. One response that stuck out to me was Alice’s. She talked a lot about something that I use a lot in the everyday quarantine, that I didn’t really think about. Religion is a huge aspect to many people’s lives, and without churches staying open, everyone has tended to their well-being, but some still take the time to focus on their practice. Using this coping mechanism and focusing on what is important to some people’s everyday lives is very important. She brings up the points that during hard times religion could be a way to find yourself and a meaning to keep pushing through the tough times. This poem also showed how this lady was using rituals, maybe not religion but definitely finding a use to them in other ways and I think that it was good point to get caught up on and notice. Maybe this was the reason to killing the cat… either way, rituals and religion can allow you to come back to level grounds and realize your purpose. Not everyone sees the importance when using it but others use it consistently in their everyday lives and that is what is important.
