Day 5 – May 3

How are you being impacted by COVID 19 currently?

Since the spike of COVID the University’s protocol has been frequently changing and less spoken of. Updates about positive cases have stopped, and quarantine along with the rules behind isolation have been swept under the rug. I recently tested positive for COVID and had a completely different experience than I would’ve expected. I was not forced to return home or to quarantine in a hotel room off campus for 10 days but rather was allowed to stay in my room for only 5 days in ‘isolation’. I live in a suite on campus, so I share a room with 3 other girls. Isolation was simply staying in my room, wearing a mask in shared spaces, and doing school remotely. This was a big change compared to times during the peak of COVID. In addition to this, I was allowed to leave to go outside or visit the dining hall, if necessary, if I was wearing a mask. Regarding my symptoms – I felt as though I had a normal cold. A simple respiratory infection along with a running nose and slight headache. This went away within a day or two and being completely honest, I thought it was due to stress. I really wouldn’t have tested if my roommate didn’t test before me (her symptoms were much worse). Overall, it wasn’t too bad of an experience besides missing class and the forever negative judgment behind having COVID.
