Chapter 25 opened my eyes up to so much. Before reading, I had no idea that there was such a variety of speeches, and how much went into each one. I was amazed by the detail, thought, and meaning behind each individual speech, and was touched that there was a specific, but different, focus for each one. For example, a speech of introduction will hold a very different meaning and focus than a speech of roasts and toasts. A much more serious and focused speech, with the addition of a presentable attire, whereas toasts and roasts are more meant to be a humorous tribute with a more laid-back approach. The focus, and detail of each speech aren’t the only key aspects to an individual speech. It is more of having the correct audience, setting, and message as well. With this also comes the correct attire, tone in your voice, and the way you present yourself to others. For example, looking back into this chapter, some types of speeches are a speech of introduction, speech of acceptance, speech of presentation, roasts and toasts, and even speeches of inspiration. No two speeches are exactly the same, and in fact, every speech must be approached differently every time. Reflecting on this, your attire or even message for a toast at a wedding would be much different and more personal than a speech of acceptance. There are many differences when approaching these wide variety of speeches, but overall, it is as though you’re playing a role and once mastered, anything is possible. I have been able to take away a lot of things from this chapter and have realized the importance of preparation; not only for what you’re going to say, but for how you’re going to act, present yourself, the setting, and what type of audience you’re speaking to.
