Social Structures & Cultures – HW

Define social structure and culture homework assignment

In my eyes, social structures are the framework or foundations that surround and guide us throughout our life setting boundaries, limits, and giving us direction in which to go. They tend to be set expectations or limitations placed on either a specific group of people or society. Social meaning society or the population of interest and structure meaning arrangement and relations between different parts of a whole. People are constantly influenced by the norms and beliefs ‘set’ by their cultures or social structures. We constantly base our interests and beliefs off different structures that were previously put in place by others. In ways, cultures, groups, and social class or status are major components of what make up a social structure. The social construct of these different groups, big or small, guide the behavior, perspectives, attitudes, and interests throughout their lives. There is no textbook or guideline that tells one whether or not they’re correctly following the ‘social structures’ from their society as they don’t exist. We make decisions for ourselves they’re just based off the foundation we lean on each day of our lives.

Culture is the ways in which different interests, beliefs, and collective identities make a social group unique and welcoming to its own. Ways in which individuals interact and communicate form this relationship between members of each culture. Values tend to orient their moral commitments, and their beliefs is usually something they hold in common.
